Re: [webdesign-396] PHP Mysql Classes/Study Group Schedule

Hi, I am going to a marriage and also for work for two weeks to England so it is unlikely that I will be able to set up a fixed time when I can get online.  Maybe I can log in to see what you guys need and also go through w3 schools.

Thanks for doing this and also thanks to Ronald for the help offer.

Anand

Anand,

While you are gone would you be able to study online? If so then I can dedicate some time, either on the saturdays in question or other days, to keep you up to speed. that way when you get back you can jump right in.

I should clarify for everyone, when I mean not missing classes, you don't have to show up in person for the classes. While we will have a group meeting in person, others can join us in text chat at the same time. Or they can review the information I will add to the forums (and the discussions that ensue) and they can read the materials we will be using, as they will all be online.

As well, I will create a single Log in account, so that everyone can practice the PHP and SQL. While it will be one account (so i dont have to create dozens of accounts), everyone will use their own directories in those.

Hope that helps and clarifies, so if anyone has any questions please send along to the list.

Kind Regards,
Aoirthoir

Hi, I didn't realize that this class was starting in November.  I am gone out of town from Oct 30th - Nov 15th.  If you have a number of people who can't make the first day, maybe you can have two days for the first class (one in October)?  I would be happy to pay for your time.

Otherwise, I will try to catch up before the third session using w3 schools.

Anand

Greetings All!

Today we had an excellent meet and greet. We went ahead and settled on the PHP/MySQL Class Schedule. More details will follow early next week, and the meetings will be scheduled on the calendar at that time. The basic details are now that there will be 6 weeks of classes. The dates are:

November 7th at 11:00am.
November 14th at 11:00am.
November 21st at 11:00am.
November 28th will be skipped for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

December 5th at 11:00AM.
December 12th at 11:00AM.
December 19th at 11:00AM.
December 26th will be skipped for the Christmas Holiday.

By the end of the 19th's class we will have decided on whether to schedule another round of Basic Intro or to move on to a next level. The location will be announced early next week

Since this is a Basic Intro to PHP and MySQL there are some pre-requisites. You MUST know how to use a computer, how to turn it on, how to use a graphical user interface, how to use a text editor or a basic word processor. You don't have to be an expert in any of these. You must also understand the basics of HTML. That is you should know who to create an HTML document, HTML tags with their attributes. You don't have to be an expert designer, or know killer HTML or standards, or any such thing.

Also, while missed classes are understandable, too many would require a participant to sit the balance of the sessions out and join us the next time. I'm gladly willing to catch someone up to a missed class. But it's too much of a set back to have someone come into the class at the 4th week, with no experience at all in PHP or MySQL as we would spend too much time trying to explain the basics again, which the other students would already have gone over.

Now as to the books. For this Basic Intro, I've decided to skip the books. We'll see how it goes and then add books next time round if needed. In the meantime I will be pointing everyone to online resources that will need to have been studied *prior* to each day's lesson. So everyone will read the lesson, and then join us on Saturday Mornings to discuss, experiment and so on. If you would like to see an example of this methodology, go to http://cobol.meetup.com/1/calendar .

If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me via the list, personal email, and phone at[masked].

Many Kind Regards,
Aoirthoir
