Mailing List

You've signed up at You've joined a few meetups. You've RSVPed to a fantastic meetup. Then, your job, day to day affairs and other cares make you forget all about it. You go back onto meetup and realize you missed some event you really wanted to attend! What now?

Well thankfully has a great mailing list. You will get emails when you RSVP to events telling you they are coming up soon. You'll get emails when new events are added. You'll get emails from other members about topics related to and not related to the meetup. Soon your inbox is flooded and you are drowning in all the emails? What now?

Well, as they created the mailing list they also provided the facilities for you to decide just how often you receive emails. See that link up at the top of this page that says Account. No? Sure you do it looks like this:

Ok after you are done reading this go ahead and click it. Or if you happen to be running Firefox, Internet Explore 7+, Safari, Opera, Konqueror, or just about any other modern browser, open it in a tab and then you can follow along with us.

Ok so once you click that you get something like this:

Now while yours may or may not be as pretty as mine (and may or may not be as humble), it should look pretty much the same. Even if adds more features. Now right above the place where it says Personal Info you should see a tab that says "Membership And Communications". Go ahead, you know what to do, and you will get something like this:

Alright now notice that there you have three options for the mailing list. You can receive emails every single day (hooray!) or only once a day (hooray!) or not at all (hooray!). Ok why am I horraying each time? Because using these options you are able to decide for yourself whether you participate in the mailing list, and how often. Ok but what about events? If I choose Not At All won't I miss out on my RSVP reminders, or organizer announcements? No worries G, you'll still get those. So you won't have to worry about missing our meetups.

But for some, that's just not enough. Some folks don't want anyone to be able to go into and email them. They prefer to be emailed by only other members of meetups they are on. Still others only want organizers to be able to email them. Of course others might not even want that, but then how would ya know when something is coming up? Well the first two options we do have a choice in..the third, you'll just have to email the organizers and ask them not to email you... To get to those settings just scroll down on your Memberships and Communication page to see this:

There is also another way to quickly get to this tab to turn off your email. At the bottom of every email sent out from the mailing lists on you will see this statement
To unsubscribe or to update your mailing list settings, click here. Clicking that will automatically take you to the meetup page in question. Of course you might have to sign in, if you are not.

So there ya go! Not more control than you can shake a stick at, but pretty danged close.

Alright, so now you've turned off all of the mailing lists and your not getting mails at all. But you hear about some really neato topic that folks are talking about and you wish you hadn't missed it. No worries my friend, has us covered. Just go to the archives and BAM! you are set.

If you want to send something to the mailing list feel free. You can do so right from our Mailing List or you can email to

Please consider that lots of folks sign up using their work emails, so we want to be mindful of following the considerations mentioned in our Messages page.

Finally what if you just don't want to receive email from a particular person? On meetup I can't help with that. But the emails that go out to the mailing list include the email of the sender. So, using the FILTER capability of your email program, you can tell those emails to go to la la land. There are really too many email clients for me (and too many that I do not use) for me to comment on here and in any way be of any real help. But you might want to check out our Email Filters page and see if anyone has added any instructions for a specific email program. Heck you might feel like adding the instructions yourself!
