Join us for a Plant BioBlitz Dec 11, 2011 noon-2pm at the Don Edwards Refuge in Alviso (not Newark) to identify and count plant species occurring at the refuge. You don’t have to be an expert botanist in order to participate. This 2-hour BioBlitz will be facilitated by knowledgeable experts from the California Native Plant Society.
The event is organized by the US Fish & Wildlife Service and is part of a longer 24-hour event from 2pm on Saturday, December 10, to 2pm on Sunday, December 11, 2011. It is part of National Get Outdoors Day, an annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun.
Using informal methodology and organization, the BioBlitz pairs refuge visitors with trained scientists and naturalists to document the distribution, occurrence, and patterns of all the plants and animals on the refuge. The goal is to allow first-time visitors to public lands, both young and old alike, to reconnect with the great outdoors by counting as many species as possible within a 24 hr time period.
