Tunxis Trail- Mile of Ledges

Hike a 6 mile loop of the Tunxis Trail through the Mile of ledges, the most rugged section of the Tunxis Trail System. Trail involves some scrambling through the ledge system. On return loop we will pass the Tory Den on the Yellow Dot Trail where Tories hid during the Revolutionary War. In the late 1800's this cave was also used by the Leatherman.

I got up here early and wanted to let everyone know that if coming east on rt 6 from rt 8 there's a quick detour for road work. Just hang a right at the detour and then your first left will bring you right back around it back onto 6. Also Plymouth rd is easy to miss from N riverside. Stay straight when the road heads sharp left and you will see cemetery up on hill and you want to head towards that and then make a right so it's directly on your left . My phone map saved me here as I passed it the first time .

Dave, if you are the leader, what is your phone number in case people or myself get lost? I don't have an I phone, so I cannot email you.

I've updated the map and address to the actual trail head. Parking on the east side of causeway is roadside where available and may be up to .2 miles from trailhead.

30 marsh road looks like it is at a Country Club according to GPS. Where exactly will this hike meet/start?

If you look at the google map above it's right next to the reservoir. The trail head is on the west side of the causeway.

It looks like there is limited roadside parking at the trailhead on the west side of the reservoir. Otherwise their is roadside parking on the eastern side of the reservoir. We will meet at the trailhead on the west side of the causeway.

not being from the area, where is the parking on the other/east side and approximately how far is it from the trailhead. trying to figure out how much extra time to leave in case the trailhead parking is full. is the link above where the trailhead is?

      September 20, 2013

  • Claire R.

Do you have an approximate address for the trailhead on the western side or is it obvious how to get there? Above you've given an address for the east side. Thanks, Claire

Sorry to have to ask, but can you explain what "scrambling through the ledge" means. I've never scrambled before LOL

The trail squeezes around boulders in and over ledges. Doing a quick search on Bing found these pictures from a meetup group a couple of year back that shows some of the trail. http://www.meetup.com...
