• [postponed] Tuesday CTO School Lunch (monthly)

Monthly lunch is postponed until October. See you all then!

  • How do we build the right thing?

    Location visible to members

We are having an ethics workshop! Our host will give a quick tour of ethical theory and then we will use that to discuss real life tech dilemmas. What good is our tech if it’s not here to make the world a better, safer place and make customer lives better.

  • Tuesday CTO School Lunch (monthly)

    HuTong

A monthly lunch with other CTO School members; a casual chat about things of interest over good food. Open to any CTO’s (or CTO-like roles) or people aspiring to get there. IMPORTANT: If you RSVP a spot, and no longer can make it, please un-RSVP to free up a spot for someone else. If you’re on the waitlist, you likely can come, but seating is on a who-gets-there-first basis - we will book 2 large tables and increase the booking if numbers are high. This is a pay-your-own way lunch - each table will generally share food and split a bill (taking dietary requirements into consideration).

  • Improve your leadership with insights from positive psychology

It's vital to understand the benefits of positive psychology at an executive level because an organisation that invests in staff wellbeing drives increases to company profitability, productivity, quality, customer satisfaction and employee retention. Positive psychology is about the concept of wellbeing of the mind. It's not dissimilar to the idea of training your body to be fit and healthy so you can avoid injury. Positive psychology lets you improve long-term health by working on the areas of wellbeing that improve resilience personally and in the workplace. The science of mood contagion is a key reason to focus on discussing this concept with leaders and influencers in organisations: you! This workshop-style session will be led by Dr. Liz Blink. She is a product nerd who has been working in the industry for more than 15 years. She's a product person who was introduced to the industry when we were still doing waterfall! She has happily transitioned to agile and loves it and embraces it for all the elements it encourages of team empowerment and group intellect. However, in terms of leadership and how we continue to ensure teams lift above the process instead of getting lost in the rituals, she's been exploring positive psychology as part of her latest phase of professional development in leading teams. She believes it has some great tools to enable us (leaders) to enhance our current team building skills and & actively contribute to a positive culture at our organisation. She thinks we can do more to contribute to the culture of our organisations off the wealth of great work that has already been established by agility.

  • Hiring: how to make hiring decisions with confidence

A company is only as good as its people. But how do you make sure you hire the right people? Hiring mistakes can be costly in time, morale and money. This session is an overview of the hiring process at Flip, exploring what makes a great question (and what doesn't!). No matter what side of the hiring table you're on, there's plenty to learn and discuss!

  • CTO Q&A

    Envato

At this month’s CTO School, CTO stands for Controversial Topic Orator! We’ll be taking a leaf out of Tony Jones’ book and assembling an impressive panel of current and former CTOs to debate some of the big, controversial issues in tech. Is Julian Assange a hero or a villain? Is privacy dead or worth fighting for more than ever? Is allowing anyone to live stream anything, including atrocities, a human right or a privilege society can’t afford? If you’re sick of everyone in tech agreeing with each other in the post agile world, this is the meetup for you 🙂 And if you’re someone with opinions on the big issues, our fish bowl style format will give you the opportunity to share them and pit them against some of the sharpest minds in tech in this town. Come along to spectate and/or to participate - all are welcome! And if you have a suggestion for a controversial topic, we want to hear from you when you RSVP, so please let us know and we’ll add the best ones to the agenda :)
