Wednesday night sailboat races on Commencement Bay! These are hosted by the Corinthian Yacht Club of Tacoma, and occur every Wednesday From April 10th through the end of August (skipping July 4th). Come out and race on some awesome boats!
WHAT TO EXPECT - This is sailboat RACING! Expect to be challenged. Expect to be given orders to be followed. Show up prepared with PFD, tennis shoes, layers. It's colder on the water then on land. Be consistent. Do not bail. You will likely be out a bit late, so confirm you can stay as long as needed for the race. These things all detract from the meetup group, and make it hard to find people boats when people don't follow these basic principles.
IF WE CANNOT FIND YOU A BOAT, or you do not get placed with a captain, your best bet to get on a boat is to show up to the skippers meeting at Tyee Marina (Tyee II)(Look for the shipping container) at 6:00pm before the race.( plan to arrive 15min ahead of time so you don't miss the meeting). Just let them know you want to crew when they ask if people are looking for boats.
There is a car gate to get through. Just wait for someone else to go through and then quickly follow them.
Visit www.cyct.com for more information, or to join the club as a crew member. Crew memberships help support the club, the sport of racing, and are a great way to meet skippers and other sailors. The best part of being a crew member is the hands on experience and mentoring you gain from other experienced members. You are also welcome to attend all social events, cruises, and races.
