Following the inaugural meeting of “Enough Waiting”, we now continue to discuss and act on the ideas raised in the book Enough Is Enough (http://steadystate.org/enough-is-enough) launched in January (see videos and photos (http://steadystate.org/discover/enough-is-enough/videos-and-photos/)). The next event is on 15th May and you are warmly invited.
5.30 – 5.45: Welcome
5.45 – 6.45: Reading and Discussion Group
6.45 – 7.00: Break
7.00 – 8.00: Action Group
This month's Reading and Discussion Group will discuss how we measure our progress as a society (a theme elaborated on in Chapter 9 of Enough Is Enough). Participants are encouraged to read the excellent article If the GDP Is Up, Why Is America Down? (http://www.theatlantic.com/past/politics/ecbig/gdp.htm) by Clifford Cobb and colleagues. The Action Group will follow up on last month's action items, and consider what actions are required to progress the steady-state agenda in our region and beyond.
You are welcome to attend either or both events whether you're familiar or unfamiliar with the issues, though a brief introduction may be found on the steady-state website (http://steadystate.org/).
We are keen to follow people’s interests so that the issues addressed chime with what people feel they need. So come along and contribute.
Our aim at this stage is to ensure a wider understanding of the critical issues around our current addiction to growth and to bring the alternative of a steady state economy into the public domain.
“Enough Waiting” is hosted by the Yorkshire Chapter of CASSE (http://www.facebook.com/groups/casseyorkshire/) (the Centre for the Advancement of the Steady State Economy). All are welcome to attend!
We hope to see you there!
