Are you an artist free to sketch on a Friday? Like to draw from life but a bit shy about doing it alone? Meet other artists for a casual lunch and sketch (actually, most meets extend though to teatime cake too :- ) Venue-based for comfort and sociability, but informal and inexpensive. We gather every Friday in various relaxed eateries and coffee shops, from the West End to Richmond, to draw our surroundings and chat through the afternoon. You're welcome to join us - just bring a small sketchbook and some food money.
Note - We meet at lunchtime because it's only fair we put money across the counter before hogging the tables for the afternoon (so yes, you use your own pad etc.). This isn't a class - we're just normal cafe customers and they are not expecting us, so best to order before getting materials out, in the same way you would if using a laptop in a cafe, and please keep things neat at tables - no tubes of oils near food of course. If you use watercolours bring a water container - no washing brushes in crockery as we want to be welcomed back. Paint boxes on tables are considered a hygiene issue by some venues so be discreet.
There's no charge from me, but it's nice to leave a tip for staff as we're there for so long, so a contribution of 50p - £1 on the table is always welcome.
We meet every Friday (very occasionally the day has been changed, but we never meet at weekends!) There are no group photos or critique, and no 'end time'. Leave when you wish. Please don't upload photos of artists as many do not like their photo put online by others. Thanks.
If sharing your cafe drawings on social media, you may want to use our hashtag #cafesketchers, and feel free to add your sketches to the Meetup page.
