Six Tuesdays, September 17, October 1, October 15, October 29, November 12, and November 26, 2013, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Rosedale Community Centre. We will consider thinkers, thoughts and applications, basing our discussions on these special ones: Plato (universals); Aristotle (dialectic); Descartes (consciousness); Kant (the categorical imperative); J.S. Mill (utility); and Wittgenstein (language games). Participants will seek out and explore contemporary applications and developments of these central ideas. Readings will be based on short excerpts from the philosophers, available on the Internet. Those who find print access more convenient may purchase Socrates’ Children (Trudy Govier, Broadview Press, 1997).

The facilitator is Trudy Govier. Recently retired from the University of Lethbridge, Trudy is the author of several widely used books including Forgiveness and Revenge and God the Devil and the Perfect Pizza. Her previous offering for CALL was “Writing Philosophical Dialogues.”
