Difficult Scramble - Mount Smuts

Mount Smuts is the hardest scramble in Kane's book, you want to do this!

You must have a mountain bike for the approach to attend this meetup.

A good level of fitness is required as our pace is moderate-fast. Please be realistic about your abilities. You must be able to commit to the entire event.

Gear can be rented at MEC and UofC Outdoor Center.


We will meet at the in Calgary meeting point and carpool from there. Please be on time as we will only wait a short while past past the departure time before we leave.

From the Canmore Nordic Center, drive 36 km south on the Spray Lakes Road (gravel or in winter, snow laden, maybe not even plowed depending how early you are getting started). Turn right at signs for the Mount Shark Cross Country and Biathlon Range, Mount Shark Helipad and Engadine Lodge . Cross a bridge and turn left on the first logging road you come to. Park here and bike in to Commonwealth Creek on an old logging road that forks to the right on a trail before you arrive at the creek.


You must sign a trip waiver and contact information form to attend this event. The event organizer will have this for you.
