Good day everyone. I have seen a large number of new members and that a few people have tried to organize events in the past. Since I have been busy in other aspects of my life the last few years I have left this group very open. A couple of months back I tried a couple of things. First I posted a board for members to share a photo from the past week. I then asked for members to message me back to what types of activities they would like to see.
Unfortunately participation in both were poor. Only a couple of members posted photos and out of a membership of 400 only 6 responded. This was slightly disappointing. I also noticed that someone had posted about a photographer coming in this weekend from Seattle and I let it go as it sounded like it might be good for the membership. Yet I notice that no update as to location ever came and the registration is no longer operative.
Add to this that one of the other Calgary meet-up groups, Start to Photograph, had chosen to shut down and I started thinking that I have to take back control of the CIFP. I have changed the settings that only events I am notified of first will be able to be posted. I will be organizing some meet-ups of different types, some at no cost and others will be paid events. I am also willing to entertain anyone who might want to be a co-organizer. Since I am in the NW it would be nice to find a few others in the different quadrants of the city so not all the events take place up at this end.
I will be starting the Sunday Showcase again this weekend. Please share One image from the past week that you would like to have critiqued. I am also adding a board for the Photo a Day Challenge. This is in response to STP's shutting down and those who were doing project 365 not having a place to share the finish of that project. I also created this way so anyone can join at any time and accept the challenge. There are only three rules for this board, 1) When you start you have to keep posting a photo of the day for as long as you can. If you miss you can start again, but please note that on the photo you post that you are starting over. 2) Please, only one photo. Do not post multiple photo's from the same day. 3) Under caption please date your photo for that day. This works for two reasons, first it allows us to see who is keeping up and second allows you to post back dated work should you be away for any stretch as long as you did shoot at least one photo each day.
So we are back to the start so to speak and I know there maybe some members who drop. My intention though is to get this working again and to find a renewed energy for the CIFP. I will be posting some more info later as well.
