What we're about

Welcome to the Calgary Leadership Forum – Brian Lee President Justice Louis Brandeis once said: “The most important political office is that of a private citizen.” By that, I think he meant that for a community to function with vitality, all its members need to take an active, decision-making role to assure a better, collective quality of life. . As private citizens and Calgarians, I think we can all agree that we live in one of the world’s great cities, a place with unparalleled opportunities: we are an economic engine for our province and our country. We are also a center of learning, culture, research, and technology. But we’re now at a crossroads, facing the challenge of how to double in size-----with the addition of another one million people over the next 50 years-----all the while dealing with an aging population, the lack of sufficient affordable housing, the demand for quality education, and other socio-economic and environmental challenges. We simply can’t wait to confront our future. As private citizens we need to have a voice in determining that future right now. So, what’s your vision for the future of Calgary? What’s your strategic advice on how we can grow in productive, sustainable, inclusive ways…..?, What kind of legacy do you want to leave to future generations in terms of the environment, the economy, our education system, our recreational opportunities….. and all the other crucial benchmarks that converge to form a vital city with healthy neighborhoods? For too long too many Calgarians have felt that what they think and feel and say doesn’t matter ….and it does. Margaret mead once said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” If you have ideas, and want to make a difference, then the Calgary Leadership Forum welcomes you. The Leadership Forum was founded in 2008 as a forum for debate and discussion by a small gathering of local folks, who then joined together as a non-partisan think-tank.We now number 1800+ members and are growing. OUR MISSION – “dedicated to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Calgary, for this and future generations” Now, with the many new challenges facing our city, it’s time for the Leadership Forum to grow. And so on behalf of our members, we invite you to join us.
