D5-Wind Ridge (Moderate/Difficult Hike)
An automatic waitlist has been set up. Please answer the RSVP questions to be moved to the Going list. Come join me on Wind Ridge! Sightseeing helicopters fly into this valley relatively often - a testament on the spectacular views available for those who reach the top. It is a long steady uphill hike, with some section of scrambling near the top. Images: Bob Spirko TRAIL DESCRIPTION: DISTANCE: ~12km return. ELEVATION GAIN: ~800m. This is a moderate to difficult hike due to distance combined with elevation gain. There is a small section of scrambling (requiring hands on climbing) near the top. TIME ON TRAIL: ~7+ hours (including driving). Please do not RSVP "Yes" if you need to be back in Calgary by a certain time as the mountains, weather, and traffic can be unpredictable. RECOMMENDED: Sunscreen, hiking poles, gaiters. PARTICIPATION: I reserve the right to move people on and off the trip or wait list, or to increase or reduce the size of the group, in order to match people to the trip based on fairness, ability, safety, and other criteria. I also give priority to CORA members, those with 0 no-shows, and those who can drive others. ****I am a volunteer, and not a certified mountain guide. Everyone attending should do their homework and know the directions to the trailhead, and the trail route. During the trip, you are expected to follow the trip organizer and stick with the group. You assume all responsibility for your safety and well-being, and should come fully prepared with proper gear and be physically fit to do this hike with the group. ****

    What we're about

If you're looking for the premier hikes and classic scrambles in the Canadian Rockies, you've come to the right place. In winter, we'll snowshoe and ski them. Want more? We do anything outside. Come join us!

We are a non-profit Calgary-based Society dedicated to recreational pursuits, including hiking, scrambling, rock climbing, camping, running, walking, backpacking, cycling, rollerblading, canoeing, kayaking, caving, mountaineering, snowshoeing, skiing (cross-country, downhill and backcountry), snowboarding, photography, and adventure travel. We are currently developing trips for those who love the outdoors, and even some indoor activities. We also want to help members develop recreational skills such as wilderness first aid, avalanche safety, and outdoor adventure skills. We want you to have a safe but fun time out there. We want members to share their skills with others so that we can all enjoy everything outdoor recreation can offer.
