Annual Death March on snowshoe to Beautiful Lake O'Hara, Yoho NP. An awesome snowshoe trail with beautiful views!
This trail is an out and back which follows the access road to Lake O'Hara used by the shuttle buses in the summer. The trail climbs steadily up to the lake.
Membership dues: If you are new to CORA and never hiked with us before, please read the description carefully. We admit paid Society members only and there are two options: Either purchasing annual Society membership ($20) which lasts until the next AGM (end of December), or casual hiker's fee ($5) that is valid for one outing. Payments are done online on a COMPUTER ONLY. The blue link on the left (Smart phones/iPhones don't have this app, so it must be done on PC/MAC). Membership dues
TRIP WAIVER AND CONDITIONS: You must sign a CORA trip Waiver to attend this event. I will have the waiver with me at the Parking Lot. By joining this trip, you are bound to CORA Rules of Conduct.
Pace: Slower while ascending, moderate otherwise yet taking time to embrace the views. If you are a speed demon please sign up for another hike.
This is neither a race nor a competition, no speed demons. Zero tolerance for people who goes front of the Organizer while on the trail and leaves the group. No beginners, No Slowpokes, No Whining!
Group size: 8 maximum
Distance: ~24 KM + some wondering around
Elevation: ~ 550 M
Duration: We are out for a day.
Direction: Take Hwy 1 West, past Lake Louise, to the Lake O'Hara parking lot which is approx 2.5kms west of the BC/Alberta border (you will see a sign to turn left off the highway). Drive across the railway tracks and turn into the parking lot.
Transport: CORA trips start at the trailhead. We meet at the meeting point in Calgary to make organizing trips easier and help ensure we know who's showing up. Please be on time. You may choose to meet us at the trailhead, but please advise us ahead of time.
Gas Fee contribution: $30.00 per person.
Day hike gear requirements (3 season hiking gear): For safety reasons anyone arrives unprepared will be asked to go home. We check gears at the meeting location. I will have no choice, but to turn you away if you do not show up properly prepared. Please do not put me in a position of having to do that. Dress appropriately for the weather, prepare for the unexpected.
Daypack, snowshoe, layers (NO COTTON),
Hiking boots (if you show up with runners and/or jeans I will not take you for this hike.)
Hiking poles (optional, however advisable)
microspikes , Head Lamp, extra battery, Bear spray - mandatory (no bear bells)
First Aid Kit
Extra Snacks and Packed Lunch
Pack garbage out (must)
Who can attend: No dogs. No children. No Smokers. Members only. You must be on the RSVP list to attend. Please refrain using perfume and avoid scented fabric softener.
