Kane Quad (postponed to 2017)

  • to

  • Shouldice Arena

Hwy 1 & Home Road, Calgary, AB (map)

    51.071499 -114.164856

  • ***POSTPONED DUE TO SNOW***

    Hang out with your partner on Friday night and then get busy on Saturday and Sunday and bag 4 Kane peaks and back for Sunday dinner ;}

Some people consider the Aster Lake area the most beautiful place in the Rockies. There is no doubt its scenic and may have the start of some Autumn colours although hopefully no snow.

Walk in to Aster Lake Saturday morning and dump camping/bivy gear. Then bag Sarrail and back to relax in camp. Next morning up early and bag Cordonnier, Warrior, and Northover. Back to camp, pick up gear and walk out.

Will require good weather. Next possible weekend would be Sep 24th.

Option to bag Joffre on Sunday for those inclined.

I'm thinking to join Geoff's ambitious trip tomorrow, and then a late-start climb up Middle Sister on Saturday. Maybe see some of you folks on one or other of these? Looking forward to this Kane quad next year instead!

Anyone else who wants to join us for the "sleep-in trip" send me PM - I might not post on CSMC since it's too hard to coordinate with being out of town all day tomorrow

Due to crappy Sunday weather forecast and evidence of significant snow already in the area...KiwiLisa, Bert and I decided to back off on this one for now. The thought is better to go in there with a realistic shot at the 4 Kane summits and enjoy a weekend up there.

Will leave this trip on through Friday for people to comment and make alt plans.

Weather for the weekend is looking decent. Anyone else coming from Canmore and want to carpool. I plan to go in Saturday morning.

Forecast is flipping back and forth. We will make the call as to whether its worth going up there for 2 days later Thursday...

Hey guys. Given the size of this group, is it same to assume we will be moving in many small groups, not one or two large ones?

    • Alex J.

My plan is to go in Saturday morning (enjoy Friday with family) and drop camping gear and then go up Sarrail. Sunday do Warrior, Cordonnier and Northover and then pick up camping gear and walk out.

My plan is to head in early saturday (possibly late friday) tag whatever weather allows, sleep over and see what the weather brings sunday. If the forecast continues to deteriorate there may be a change in plans for sunday and some rethinking of saturday objectives

Hey Alex, this sounds fun and social, could I coordinate a breakaway group so the waitlisted folks can join the party? I'd probably go in Friday.

Awesome Morgan, will be great to see you this weekend. What time can you get away Friday?

Likely midafternoon at earliest. Also share your concern re weather forecast for the area. Continue to monitor and brainstorm for options (pun intended!)

Hi Alex, I presume for Warrior and Cordonnier glacier travel gear will be required. Mountaineering boots, crampons, harness, 5m prussik cord, 2 locking beaners, ice axe, and helmet. Not sure but I'm going to guess people do not need an ice screw. Regardless please advise on what you think for gear.
