UPDATE JAN 31 @1:00pm - Yes, we are still going skating today!!
It's cold, but that makes an after-skate hot chocolate all the better, so come on out, even if you don't plan to skate... you can cheer on those of us trying valiantly to stay upright!
Sir John A Macdonald's 200th birthday was a few weeks ago, but it's still a good month to party & celebrate our country's first Prime Minister!
Let's go skating at the Olympic Plaza rink, then perhaps a drink or dinner nearby afterwards.
There will be a free party at Olympic Plaza celebrating his birthday, supported in part by the Scottish government & a Canadian Historic Society.
Why are the Scots involved? Macdonald is a Scottish name... a patronym (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patronym) where Mac means "son" and Dhòmhnaill means "of Dòmhnall". It's one of Scotland's largest clans.
More about Sir John here! (https://www.google.com/search?q=proper+spelling+of+john+a+macdonald#q=john+a+macdonald)
Cake, hot chocolate & perhaps some Scottish entertainment will be on the menu.
GET YER TARTAN ON! All Scottish attire is welcome, especially kilts (there MAY be prizes if you wear one)!
NOTE: this is likely a cold weekend, so if you're wearing a kilt, you will probably want to double up (unless you're a true Scot and brave the elements like a William Wallace!)
NOTE: You don't HAVE TO wear Scottish attire; if nothing else, we'll have a good time skating around for an hour or so, then going for something to nibble on nearby...
More info to come if available...
