What we're about

California Peaks North is the Bay Area extension of the original, Los Angeles based, California Peaks ( http://www.meetup.com/California-Peaks/ ). Please consider joining both groups as our members drive all over California and beyond to bag peaks. California Peaks North was created to provide our Bay Area friends with a way to connect in order to train on local mountains and carpool. The organizers will use both pages to cross-post events worth a long drive. Training activities and local events will likely stay on their respective pages.

Although our focus is mainly the mountain tops, our members also participate in canyoneering, rock climbing, snow camping, and all the other activities associated with the well-rounded mountaineer.

[Read every word, watch for announcement updates, and check back the latest update Thursday evening before the event] Middle Palisade, 14012ft/4271m, P1085 ft, SPS, 15mi/+6380ft/cls3/13-14h https://www.peakbagger.com/climber/ascent.aspx?aid=1268239 (beta) https://www.peakbagger.com/climber/ascent.aspx?aid=1432610 Personal dialogue with the climber: "I did not use them (axe/crampons). ... Crossing the glacier is optional as you can skirt around it entirely on boulders. I did cut across it with and felt fine. Lots of melting snow though so you need to be careful of streams under the thinner ice. Some climbers were glissading down which would save some time. " ... "I would highly recommend a climbing helmet for the last section. I didn’t have one and wished I did. Lots of loose rocks that have the potential to come down on you. If you go on a weekend there will be other climbers ahead of you most likely and they will dislodge rocks. Had a few come very close to hitting me which would have been very bad.
