What we're about

We're pretty much the most active backpacking specific group in the bay area. From beginner to expert our people are the best. We get outdoors a lot but also have non-backpacking social events. In the summer it's all about the backpacking and in the winter we try to have a range of activities from snow camping to resort skiing days. So if you want to meet other outdoors enthusiasts, whether you're a hardcore hiker or an aspiring novice, sign up.

4th of July Backpacking

Needs a location

Please join the waitlist and send me a direct message if interested in joining us. We will meet in person before going on this adventure together! I plan on departing San Francisco Thursday morning July4th (let's say 8-ish...) returning late afternoon/early evening on Sunday July 7th. Where shall we go backpacking? This is totally negotiable! I am considering Desolation Wilderness and Stanislaus, but I welcome suggestions. Ideally we take it easy and hike around 4-8 miles per day. I have backpacked alone MANY times, but it would be nice to have company. Send me a direct message if you already have backpacking experience, have your own backpacking gear, and simply want to enjoy the mountains. There is no cost for this trip. I have a car that can fit four. I am simply looking for 1-3 chill people to share the experience with.

Sun > Sun Aug 11 - 18 Emigrant Wilderness Swim Vacation Backpack

Summit District Ranger Station

A repeat of my favorite loop route in this very rewarding wilderness of glaciated granite, forests, inviting lakes, and no bear problems. This year's trip is about 35 miles in total hiking days length. About 1/3 of that will be off trail, but for the most part fairly tame in EW considerations. First day is about 9 miles. After that most days are in the 6 mile range. Along the route are about 10 possible lakes / ponds to enjoy a dip in. 6 hiking days with 1 layover day, a real Noah's Ark, and THE best lake I have ever swam in! Almost around every corner is a new discovery and that what's adds to a journey's experiences even more. Even though this is about my 18th trip to EW. I supply all cookware, breakfasts, trail dinners, happy hours, and an end tailgate party for $70. Plan some time now to find out why this route is a true vacation for me! Meeting location: at a campground near Pinecrest [Hwy108] (1st night is a car camp) You are responsible for your own lunches, snacks, and hot drinks. But I feed generously so your own personal food could be kept at a minimum. Myself - I eat better 'out there' than at home! YOUR check and SIN list MUST arrive to me to be considered actually going. After I receive these I will send you complete details. Trip limit of 12 participants. Questions?[masked] or [masked] To apply; respond with complete SIN list and mail a check for $70 to LEADER; Tom Morse, 1188 Walnut St, San Carlos, CA 94070 Deadline; July 27 . SIN = Standard Information Notes 1. Your name 2. Home address (not a PO Box) 3. phone # 4. E-mail address 5. Time of departure day you can leave 6. Driver or rider? if driver, how many passengers with gear can you transport? 7. True level of experience (25 words or less) 8. Special requirements - i.e. medical or dietary? Any foods you don’t like / eat? 9. Are you taking any prescription medicines? 10. need any gear?,

Labor Day Weekend: Grand Canyon Rim To Rim (R2R) OR Camping at Mather

Yes. It's almost Christmas and New Years and who is thinking of Labor Day Weekend You are. It's time to give yourself a gift AND to fulfill your New Years Resolution AND to get this off your bucket list. This is a multi-faceted event going to The Grand Canyon with several options. Option 1: (the hard version) Rim to Rim with Camping at Mather OR Hiking to The River from the South Rim and back. Option 2: Camping at Mather with smaller hikes and only partial canyon (the easy version) Option 3: Staying at Grand Canyon hotels and spending the time seeing the sights and the vista points and interpretative centers. (The easy easy version. Or the "tour" type version) We have a group site secured at The Rim (called Mather Campground). And we have the site for Fri, Sat, and Sunday eve. You can spend 1, 2 or 3 nights there depending upon when you can arrive and when you need to depart (if you have the Monday off or not). RSVP here if you are interested in Option 1, 2 or 3. Option 1 will be an R2R if there are enough who want to. It takes several to do it safety. If there are not enough to do Rim to Rim we will either do a touch-back hike to the river via the main trails or a night at the river with a permit at Hermit Rapids. Grand Canyon is about the same elevation change and pitch as Whitney so a one day is very doable. And logically better due to issues unique to Grand Canyon and temperature changes as you descend into and out of the canyon. Timing and preparation is very important. This doable and you will be guided and led to stay and maintain safety. Option 2 is a great way to have a weekend away and have moderate hiking that matches your fitness level. Option 3 is for those who prefer a bed and wish to have a more easy time of it. COSTS: Option 1: (R2R or River) $180 Option 2: (Mather Only) $120 Option 3: Price will vary based upon when hotel is booked, and if single our double occupancy. You pay only actual costs. Hotels go up as dates get closer. Message for details Event is limited to 20 Max of Option 1 and 2 combined. A wait list will start once filled. And this will indeed fill!!! Terms: Payment is the only way to secure your spot. Secure your spot now!!! Payment is Fully Refundable up to 3 weeks before the event. Under 3 weeks and credit given for future event. And efforts will be made at a replacement from the wait-list. If a person fills your place before the trip leaves you will be refunded instead of a credit. Option 1: https://paypal.me/ExposedCalifornia/180 Option 2: https://paypal.me/ExposedCalifornia/120 Option 3: Message for hotel options GETTING THERE: Will aim to arrange carpools if possible.
