Please join Jim, Bike Town Senior Team Leader, for a 50 mile cycle ride from Glasgow to Edinburgh for the annual Pedal on Parliament event. This ride has become an annual pilgrimage for some of us in and around Glasgow and is for people capable of cycling 50 miles on road, with an average speed of about 12/14mph.
We aim to arrive at the Meadows in Edinburgh for 11.30am, Pedal on Parliament from the Meadows to Holyrood starts at 12noon.
Route: George Square, George St, Duke St, Edinburgh Rd (A8), Coatbridge Rd, through Coatbridge, on A89 through Airdrie, Bathgate (stop to regroup and refuel), A89 to Newbridge where we rejoin the A8, follow this into Edinburgh and head for the Meadows. This route follows the train line, so if you can't complete the route for any reason you can catch a train and still make the event on time.
For more information on Pedal on Parliament please visit the POP website (http://pedalonparliament.org/).
Dress for the weather and make sure your bike is in good working order and you have emergency supplies (food, money, phone, spares). You may wish to bring an extra layer to put on when you arrive in Edinburgh as it may be cold waiting for the POP start at the Meadows and listening to speeches, etc at Holyrood.
You have the option of cycling back to Glasgow or returning by train. There are numerous train options from Edinburgh to Glasgow however note that there may be a higher than usual demand for bike spaces.
