Cellist Eunghee Cho and Joy Yanai
Korean-American cellist Eunghee Cho was awarded Second Prize at the Schoenfeld International String Competition in Harbin, China. Under the tutelage of distinguished pedagogues Laurence Lesser and Paul Katz, he is currently completing the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the New England Conservatory of Music. He is the Artistic Director and Founder of the Mellon Music Festival in Davis, CA – a nod towards J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and Eunghee’s love of everything about dogs. While completing her B.M., M.M. and Graduate Diploma degrees at the New England Conservatory of Music, Canadian-Japanese cellist Joy Yanai studied with distinguished professors Laurence Lesser, Paul Katz, and Lluís Claret. As an avid chamber musician, she has collaborated in performances with Kim Kashkashian, Paul Biss, Laurence Lesser, Masuko Ushioda, and A Far Cry. In her free time, Joy enjoys baking bagels, window-shopping, and wintertime afternoon naps.

    What we're about

If you are a classical musician searching for places to play or a classical music lover searching for places to enjoy music, please join me in this series of concerts hosted in my home. There will be a small donation asked for the musicians for each concerts. I will make a snack and you can bring whatever beverage you would like to enjoy while you are enjoying the concert.

Part of my vision for the group is to help nurture musicians, listeners and the arts by providing a friendly and welcoming environment where music and ideas can be shared. I would like musicians to be professional, passionate and engaging bringing great music and history to their audience. I would like the audience to generous listeners, creating a quiet and attentive space for the musicians to share the fruits of their labor. As your host I hope to provide a space that holds comfortably these ideals and to contribute a tasty snack or two for everyone to enjoy.

Each person that attends the concert, including myself will be asked to make a donation to the musician. My expectation is that it should be at least $10. You are welcome to donate more to them if you would like. I am working out the details of how that should be done. I will update you as soon as I am more clear. Experience hosting events has taught me to create a way that insures that people who RSVP will really attend. No shows can cause many problems for the performers as well as the host.

I am excited about this. I have been an active member in other sites here on Meetup that have resulted in some of the best experiences I have had in building community. I am passionate about making this work and be a great experience for each of us, musicians and listeners.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have suggestions for concerts, ideas to share or just want to say hello. I will look forward to learning about them.

Looking forward to meeting you and enjoying some music together.
