Want to know how other freelancers, business owners and brands are using social media to grow their businesses? In 2019 we'll bring more guests to share their stories of leveraging social media to achieve their goals!
Our first guest kicking off the 'Social Media Business Stories' is Sam Owens from Thirsty Cambridge.
After a career in advertising and copywriting in the UK, Sam has moved to France and set up a holiday business in the Alps and Provence. Couple years later he set up Le Verre Gourmand in 2005, distributing wines to tour operators, chalets and hotels in the ski resorts of France, Austria and Switzerland.
When he moved back to the UK in 2008, he continued to build his Le Verre Gourmand business in France remotely. Later on, he started looking for new business opportunities in his local area, which led him to set up Thirsty Cambridge in August 2015.
Sam had never used social media (he didn't even have a personal Facebook account), but since opening Thirsty he knew that this needs to change. As someone who worked extensively in marketing and advertising, he could see the huge potential for his new business from these fast-growing platforms.
Social media has enabled them to reach large numbers of people for very little cost, especially once they started operating large-scale pop-up events. They recognised that FB events are a particularly useful tool!
Sam will share his views on why it's very important to communicate on these platforms with a distinctive voice and personality as well as how you can use social media to connect and interact with like-minded people!
P.S. Sam might bring some nice wine from the Thirsty shop and we'll have tapas from Estefania of Que Rico Tapas to enjoy while networking!
