In March, we will go back to Tree Tops park located at 3900 SW 100th Ave., Davie, FL 33328. We will meet at 8 am at the Bald Cypress shelter. After entering the park, take a right turn after the playground. It is the first shelter on the right. This shelter is located near a children's playground and the park's marina where guests can rent paddle boats. The park entrance is $1.50 per person (ages 6 and up) or $8 maximum charge per car or van (six to nine occupants). We will walk between five and six miles through sun and shade. Don’t forget to bring your sun protection, hat, mosquito repellent and water. This is a rain or shine event and no RSVP is required. But if you have a question on the day of, please contact Jackie at[masked], Hilda[masked] or Rosa[masked]. During and after each of these monthly walks, our coordinators and any other members interested in sharing their experience, will be available to share their packing gear and comment on yours. We encourage you to bring whatever you plan to bring on the Camino so you can practice and get useful feedback from experienced pilgrims. This includes backpacks, shoes, walking poles, water bottles, bladders, clothing, etc...we'll help get you ready. This offer to help you plan does not replace our more comprehensive Camino 101 and What to Pack sessions that we strongly urge you to attend. Buen Camino.
Camino 101 Join your chapter coordinators at the auditorium for a presentation and Q&A on the Camino, followed by a screening of the short documentary Camino: The Journey to Santiago. The presentation will cover the historical and cultural background of the Camino and the practicalities of walking the route. This is a great comprehensive presentation for anyone who is planning to embark on the Camino for the first time! There is ample free parking at the library. Please RSVP. What to pack… or not! Immediately following our Camino 101, we will be holding our What to Pack session. Veteran pilgrims will walk you through everything that you will need to bring on the Camino. This session will be informal and interactive. So feel free to bring your own gear and ask questions about it or share with us what worked for you and what didn’t.
Starting at the Boca Inlet. The walk will be mainly on asphalt, concrete and sand (on the beach) for about 5 to 6 miles. More precise details to follow
Our May Second Sunday Stroll will take place in Hollywood. We will meet at the parking lot of the front entrance of the Anne Kolb Nature Center (751 Sheridan St., Hollywood, FL 33019) at 8:00 am. From there we will walk the trail around the nature center including a six story (cement) tower with spectacular views of Hollywood. From the nature center we will cross over to West Lake Park for additional trails. Since the Hollywood boardwalk is just over the intercoastal bridge we will continue the walk down the boardwalk and back. The total distance of the walk will be approximately six miles. This is a rain or shine event and no rsvp is needed.
