Let's do this in the autumn this year. Driving about the Rockies near Banff. Lots of great opportunities for photography with the (hopefully) yellow foliage.
Here's what I have in mind:
Friday, 7th September: We drive out from Edmonton and get to Banff. We stay at HI-Banff Alpine Centre hostel.
Saturday, 8th September: We take day trips out to some lakes, waterfalls and other features in the area. Possibilities include: Peyto Lake, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Castle Mountain, Lake Minnewanka/Two Jack Lake, Island Lake, Bow Lake, Vermilion Lake, Emerald Lake (Yoho National Park), Abraham Lake, etc. We could do some small hikes to picturesque spots, at Peyto Lake etc. too.
Sunday, 9th September: We do some sunrise photographs at a lake in the area, then head back out to home, stopping for breakfast somewhere.
We will be staying at HI-Banff Alpine Centre hostel. Their website is here. We will be using co-ed dorm beds. The cost will be approx. $40 per person per night. As we will be staying there for two nights, that will be $80 for the weekend. You can pay at their front-desk when you arrive. Please see their Web site for more information.
For transportation, we would need to bring both my (Imran's) car, as well as another car. This is because I would end this weekend by driving out to Vancouver instead of back up to Edmonton. So, as I'm sure most people will want to return to Edmonton, they could then use the other car while I go the other way.
For meals, you will be in-charge of your own food and drink. You can simply bring it along from home (the hostel should have some fridges to put perishables in), or you can buy food on the way there or in town. On Saturday night we'll most likely go out somewhere in Banff townsite for dinner. We can pick a place then. The hostel is in Banff so it's quite easy to purchase food or any other items if needed.
If you have some preferences of places you'd like to visit and photograph or hikes you'd like to try, do mention them in the comments section.
