The meetup group has two basic goals. Firstly to develop a social space where humanists, and like-minded thinkers; atheists, free thinkers and others can meet each other and socialise. We are not alone !
Secondly to create a sense of community both through general social get togethers, and through letting people know of events of interest and/or sometimes having meetings more focussed on discussing a particular topic or issue.
Please feel welcome to join us for friendly get togethers with like minded people and to explore a humanist approach to the issues, large and small, of our time.
• Some words about humanism taken from the Amsterdam Declaration 2002:
"Humanism is a lifestance aiming at the maximum possible fulfilment through the cultivation of ethical and creative living and offers an ethical and rational means of addressing the challenges of our times. Humanism can be a way of life for everyone everywhere."
ACT Humanist Society member's forums are for members and guests who are considering joining. This month we will discuss Humanism in popular culture. What TV shows, movies and books have you seen that support Humanist values or mention Humanism?
This month's forum will be held at its usual location, a member's home in O'Connor. Please contact Mary-Anne on[masked] for the address.

In a world riven by violence and misunderstanding, prominent atheist author Sam Harris and Islamist-turned-liberal Muslim Maajid Nawaz seek to provide a remedy to the polarizing rhetoric and obscurantism around the topic of Islam.
I hope this film leads to better conversations and more understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims.
