Introduction

Born in the 'Holy Land' into the Temple Society, which wanted to set up the Kingdom of God on Earth, Dierk lived through WWII in Germany, migrated to Oz in 1951. He was so put off by theism that he became Founding Sec.Humanist Soc. of SA. in 1962...

What Dierk von B. is saying about this Meetup Group

There was, once, a separate Humanist Society in Canberra. This claimed a range of achievements, including the establishment of the Civil Liberties Union, the Voluntary Euthanasia Society and reform of the Census by the introduction of the No Religion option, which, however, is located under 36 empty boxes, rather than, as in New Zealand, being one of the first alternatives under the belief question. Geraldine Spencer was, for many years, the Editor and motive force behind Canberra ASH (Anti Smoking and Health). Australia's tobacco control legislation is today World leading! I greet and welcome the establishment of this Meetup group, which amounts to the reemergence of organised secular humanism in the ACT and particularly acknowledge the driving role that Dr Lyndon Storey, now Canberra Humanist Chaplain, has played in its emergence.
