Mixed social touch football

Hi all,

Touch footy is on!

This is a mixed gender game. For people of all levels of fitness and ability.

No special equipment or clothing needed. Just wear whatever you'd feel comfortable walking/jogging in. (though no false or really long nails please - to avoid injuries)

Game officially goes for 90 minutes, with a break in the middle. But if you need more breaks or to leave earlier that's fine.

Touch football does not have hard physical contact like tackling, scrums etc as you see in televised rugby. If someone taps your shoulder you place the ball on the ground. That's it;-). Check out this video of the Australia v NZ mixed teams (We will not be playing as fast or competitively!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbdS4kgf1DU

Will probably need 8 people minimum showing up so that we can have two teams of four. If we get less than 7 people I'll postpone the event for a week.

Come have some fun!

Cheers

    Hi all,

We had several people RSVP to attend the touch football today who didn't show up.

Some people messaged ahead of time on Meetup to say that they weren't able to come, or mightn't be able to make it - thank you as this advanced notice is helpful and appreciated.

To those who RSVP'd and did not come (or give notice) - please give the group advance notice if you can't come, or might not be able to make it. This is especially important for team sports - where you need a minimum number of people to play a game. Otherwise the group gets situations like today, where people show up hoping for some fun but then have to go home because there's not enough people.

    Cheers

Was this on? I drove past the oval's and not a human in sighr

    November 19, 2012

    • Jay

Yep it was on, but only three people showed up unfortunately. We waited 20min then left.

We are down to 7, we still going to try to make this a go?

    November 19, 2012

    • Jay

Yep we'll still give it a go, unless we drop down to six people. I'm thinking of making the pitch small which may make the game more fun given there's not so many of us.

    Hey everyone,
Thanks to Ben we have a ball to use! Now for a location. Anyone know if O'Connor oval (where soccer is played) is free on Mondays at 5:30pm?
    Cheers

Do we start from this coming Monday?

    November 10, 2012

    • Jay

No unfortunately - it won't be for another 1-2 weeks. I need to go buy a ball - will do this asap! :-)

      November 10, 2012

    • Jay

I'll put a note on Meetup as soon as I've got a ball and can confirm a date

      November 10, 2012

  • Jay

Ok everyone I'll schedule this for a Monday in the coming weeks. Does anyone have a rugby ball?? If not I'll buy one shortly, unless anyone else wants to buy one for themselves.

Hey Jay, please don't change the date just for me if Mondays suit others. I can join up after my Monday thing finishes in mid-Dec.

    November 9, 2012

  • Jay

Hi Jaakko - what time would suit you, say for after work on Mondays? Would 5:30pm suit?
5:30pm on Mondays suit other people?

    November 3, 2012

    • Jaakko

530 Mondays or Tuesdays would work for me.

      November 8, 2012

  • Jaakko

    Tuesdays are good too ...

    November 8, 2012

  • Jay

Can people do Tuesdays? Though this might interfere with some people's trips to the movies(?)

    November 8, 2012

  • Bec

I won't be able to play on Monday's until the 17th Dec. But hopefully the games will still be playing then.

  • Jay

Cool Mondays it is! I'll try to find a free field for us on Mondays and then get back to everyone.

  • Charlie

Monday would work ok for me, although I won't be able to make it this upcoming Monday.

    November 8, 2012

  • Jaakko

Mondays and Tuesday after work sound good ... I reckon Friday and Saturdays some of us will be running around doing other stuff?

    November 3, 2012

  • Jay

    Some ideas for times/days:
After work (maybe around 5:30pm?) during the week?
Maybe a Mon, Tue or Fri?
Or late Saturday mornings (allow people to have a sleep in!) - maybe 10:30am?
What do people want to do?

    November 2, 2012

  • Jaakko

I'd like to play. On Saturday afternoons I play tennis, but most other times should be alright.

    November 1, 2012

  • Jay

    Suggested time/location:
Saturday afternoons at the same place as for soccer?
