Resist Through November 3, 2020
The 2016 election is arguably a historic event, an event that has also affected many in our group directly. Many in our group are steering our focus towards resisting the policies of the current administration. As freethinkers, we usually focus on HOW we think, not generally WHAT we think. But these are unique times. So we're pausing the hosting of local events to focus on local action, considering this no time to be apathetic... or neutral. "Dante was a sectarian and a mystic but he was right to reserve one of the fieriest corners of his inferno for those who, in a time of moral crisis, try to stay neutral." "If you care about the points of agreement and civility, then, you had better be well-equipped with points of argument and combativity, because if you are not then the “center” will be occupied and defined without your having helped to decide it, or determine what and where it is." ~ Christopher Hitchens, Letters To A Young Contrarian

What we're about

Public Group

NOTE: We have canceled future local events after a consensus with active members that our members are steering focus towards resisting the policies of the current administration. As freethinkers, we usually focus on HOW we think, not generally WHAT we think. But these are unique times. So we're pausing the hosting of local events to focus on local action, considering this no time to be apathetic... or neutral.

PRIOR DESCRIPTION: Bringing local freethinkers together for community, support, and action. We are humanists, skeptics, agnostics, and atheists. Above all, we strive to be ethical, moral, and good human beings - skeptical of dogma, promoters of reason, science, and free-thought. Public truths through public revelation, "spirituality" through meaning, nature, friendship, and the arts. Cooperation with all those seeking to make a more delightful, sustainable, and humane world.

free·think·er [free-thing-ker], noun

Also relevant (from the Wikipedia page on freethought):
"Freethought is a philosophical viewpoint that holds opinions should be formed on the basis of logic, reason, and empiricism and not authority, tradition, or other dogmas. The cognitive application of freethought is known as 'freethinking,' and practitioners of freethought are known as 'freethinkers.'"
