Zion Canyoneering Rendezvous

The Zion Rendezvous is just around the corner. Yes it is happening this year.
First Clark and I at DarkHorse would like to give a huge shout out to our friend Rich Carlson for starting the Rendezvous and nurturing it through these many years. We would also like to thank him for his trust in us last year, and into the future.

As we take the rendezvous into the future our goal is to maintain all the great things that it has been to so many people over the years. We are also taking some very bold steps to see it grow and become better and bigger than ever before. We hope all those that have come and made it a great event in the past will continue, and give Clark and I a chance to earn your loyalty the way Rich did. If you give us a chance you won't be disappointed!

Again a Huge Thank You to Rich, without the foundation that he laid, we would not be in a position to take the bold steps that we are. It's going to be amazing we'll see you in September. Follow this link for all the details. To Register for the Rendezvous you must follow the link to the website. http://www.zioncanyonrendezvous.com/

What an awesome weekend. Thank you so much Clark and Steve and all of the Darkhorse leadership, as well as the top notch volunteers for making this rendezvous such a fabulous event. It was a pleasure meeting new people and exploring canyons with you. I am looking forward to the next rendezvous.

Being that this was the first canyoneering rendezvous I've attended, I really wasn't sure what to expect. I'm pleased to say, that the meetup went fantastic. The staff were friendly and eager to help out - Steve and Clark did a great job leading a group of canyoneers with vastly different levels of experience through a really nice canyon. The way the different permitted trips were handled went really smoothly. In fact the entire weekend went great - even when the weather decided not to cooperate. You all did a fantastic job. And thanks to all the people who planned in advance and acquired all the permits. I'll definitely be back next year.

Thanks to all those who put together this great activity. I was not sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. I met some great new friends and did some cool canyons. I’m sure next year will be even better, so I’m going to invite my friends to join me.

What an incredible experience! Thank you so much to Clark, Spidey and the whole team. You all did an amazing, flawless job organizing and hosting this event. Thank you to all who brought permits to share, and also to those who were willing to share their knowledge of the routes. You guys were invaluable and wonderful to get to know.

Looking to sign up for the Rendezvous - but cannot make it until Thursday night. By review of the itinerary, that doesn't appear to be a problem, yes?

Ken, same as with Sandy there will be opportunity to get into great canyons in and around the park. As for Heaps and Imlay that's a bit trickier as people are quite selective who they will drop into those with. That being said there will be people there capable of those canyons, maybe you can put something together.

Sandy, I have confirmations from several attendees that have permits for most of the in the park canyons, during the rendezvous. Most of them will be being filled at the rendezvous, due to limitations in putting together a group over the message boards or email. I can assure you there will be opportunities to get into great canyons. Beyond the in the park canyons, there will be outside the park canyons being organized as well.

I don't get how this works. In years past, people posted permits they got and you contacted them if you were interested in joining their group and if they vetted you and space was available, you were in. How are you doing it this year? Do you have permits yet? Are you assigning groups/leaders? And when will you post the workshops? Sorry to be a pain, but I would like to know some details before I plunk down 129 bucks :)

I am also interested in doing some of the iconic canyons in the area but am uncertain how will work with permits. I have been looking forward to doing Mystery, Heaps, and Imlay. I even bought a couple of 100m ropes but am too chicken to do them on my own. Would sure like to go with a group that knows what they are doing and where to go.

This is our first rendezvous & first canyoneering trip to Zion. I noticed that many of the canyons in the park require permits. Are we "on our own" to figure out the permits? Are they generally hard to obtain this time of year? Any advice on this would be welcome. Thanks!

    • Steven J.

No you're not on your own, but permits do not become available until 3 months before your desired date. We will have much more info and direction for you at that point.
