Dr. Valerie Rapson is the Chief Astronomer at the Dudley Observatory. She was interested in astronomy from an early age. After graduating from the Univ. of Rochester, she obtained her Ph.D in Astrophysical Sciences & Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Valerie served 2 years as president of the Rochester Academy of Sciences Astronomy Section. She has also been professionally recognized for her extensive experience in educating the public about astronomy.
She will discuss The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) which is the next big observatory hunting for planets outside our solar system. This space-based telescope is scanning the entire night sky for transiting exoplanets, providing us with a celestial census of exoplanetary systems. Join us as we learn about this new observatory, and about the many discoveries it has already made.
