Aaron Dinkin is going to run a hands-on 2 hour workshop on soldering and desoldering technique on Friday, Jan 4th from 6pm - 8pm. This is a great chance to learn how to solder effectively and get some tips on how to be sure you've done it right. To make sure you get the most out of this workshop, Aaron recommends the following supplies:
Soldering Iron - These can be had from a variety of stores, including Radio Shack. The pen style rather than the gun style is recommended. Example
Soldering Safety Stand - Also available from Radio Shack and online, preferably with a sponge on them for cleaning the tip.Example
Small tube of 60/40 Pb/Sn solder (or equivalent) - Watch out for solder that has an acid core, those can damage boards.
If you don't have the above supplies, and don't plan on acquiring them before the workshop, there will be a limited number of stations available to those who indicate they need them in advance. The key word is "in advance", because it lets us plan on making sure there is enough for everyone!
We'll have some boards from the junk jam that people can practice on, but if you want to bring your own boards and components, bring them with you!
