2017 March Manatee Madness Heads North

  • 2017 will be taking our group North to new and exciting paddling adventures.

The first being Silver Springs State Park.Silver Springs is the largest limestone artesian spring formation in the world and is often called the gateway to the Ocala National Forest. This will be a 5.4 mile down stream paddle that will take approximately 3 hours to complete if we just ride the current. I have been told near the end of the paddle it is very "jungle" like and we will be greeted by a colony of resident monkeys.

Silver Springs State park opens at 8 am there will be a $2.00 per person entry fee and a $ 4.00 launch fee if you have your own boats, am guessing fee will be included with any rental boats, I will find out before the event.

If you are interested in renting kayaks I recommend renting online at , (352)[masked] make a note or mention you are with the Capital District Kayakers and request a 9 am launch time,I will be in the park early and meeting Ryan as he sets everything up.To rent kayaks it will be $40 all day includes the return shuttle to our cars. For those of us with boats we may explore the idea of staging cars though parking at the end is limited, if not they will shuttle our boats for $ 10 back to our cars, we may have to come up with an approximate number of boats that would require that service prior to the event.

Lisa and I will be checking into the Holiday Inn Express &Suites  Ocala -Silver Springs on March 5th for the first two paddles before we head South to the Crystal River area on the afternoon of March 7th.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Ocala-Silver Springs, 5360 E. Silver Springs Blvd. Silver Springs, FL 34488   (352) 304-6111. Holiday Inn will give us a group discount of $102 on the 5th and $ 111 on the 6th if we reserve at least 5 rooms. When making reservations mention our group or if booking online use the special code CDK

If you have any questions at all please feel free to contact me at (518)[masked], I look forward to seeing you all in Florida for another great adventure.

Are you lodging in one place for the week or going from one area to another?.

Brian, some folks are staying at the Central Hotel (352)[masked] in Inverness for the first 2 paddles, then heading over to the Crystal River area. Lisa and I are staying closer to the paddles in Ocala from the 5th til the 7th,moving to the Crystal River area evening of the 7th til the 9th or 10th.

I am interested in this trip, can I get more details? Do you fly into Orlando and rent a car? Can we room share if someone wants to?

Looks like my brother may be joining me!

Linda, it looks like the Orlando Airport would be the best choice, definitely will need to rent a car as the Silver Springs paddle in Ocala looks to be about 89 miles away from the airport.
