Volunteer at Food Bank Warehouse

  • Park in back of the warehouse and look for the big sign by the tractor trailers that says VOLUNTEERS
  •  Attendance Policy-If members are a no show without explanation, even once...they will be removed from the group. Members will be notified and they can rejoin when they like if not immediately. I am sorry for this strict policy, but it is the only way to hold our members accountable and build and maintain our group's reliability and credibility.

ONGOING PAY IT FORWARD...we are collecting soda can flip tops for Ronald McDonald house, so bring them in with you and they will be collected by Debbie or myself (Sharon). Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region, Inc. promotes the health, development and well being of children and their families. They accomplish this through the Ronald McDonald House, a home away from home for families of seriously ill children, and by creating and supporting programs that directly improve the lives of children and their families.

We are welcome, reliable and trusted volunteer helpers at the Food Bank and we are on their schedule every month. As usual, we are working the 6:30-8:30 shift. This is a very fun as well as rewarding opportunity to give back to the community. Don't worry if you think you will not be able to keep up...no one will be judging how hard or long you work, or if you need to take breaks and sit.

Some volunteers meet up beforehand for coffee and/or dinner around 5:15 at the Rte 7 Diner right across from Keeler Motors, so let people know in the comments section if you are interested.

If the list fills up, make sure you join the waiting list because the list change a lot and we want to make sure we have a full group. They really need a solid commitment of numbers. If you cannot make it, PLEASE make sure you take your name off the list as soon as you can, even if there is not a waiting list. The Food Bank needs to know how many are coming so they can arrange the work load. I would like to assure them that the head count I give is the same number that show up.

No flip-flops, slippers or sandals...also leave all purses and backpacks concealed in your vehicles.

The work in the warehouse consists of the sorting and repacking of items sent to local food pantries, soup kitchens and member agencies. The work can be dirty at times, so wear clothes that you don't mind getting soiled...dress in layers to stay warm or cool off in the warehouse.

Remember, this work can be tortuous...all those desserts to drool over....steaks too for you meat lovers. All ages are welcome however those under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

This is always a rewarding, fun event....music and laughs provided...dancing optional!

REMEMBER-Join the waiting lists so we have backup!

About the Food Bank of Northeastern NY.

The Regional Food Bank has been helping to feed the poor and hungry in our communities since 1982. It is the only organization of its kind in northeastern New York. The Food Bank collects large donations of food from the food industry and distributes it to charitable agencies serving hungry and disadvantaged people in 23 counties. From Plattsburgh to Newburgh, in urban, rural, and suburban communities, the Food Bank provides over 20 million pounds of food a year to 1,000 agencies.

The mission of the Regional Food Bank is to alleviate hunger and prevent food waste.  We work toward this mission by ensuring that all products available for donation reach the Food Bank and are distributed judiciously to our member agencies; by practicing responsible stewardship; and by actively participating in the community to increase awareness of hunger and poverty.

The Regional Food Bank is a non-profit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
