PATC Map 5 / MD Bus
$25 (nonmembers $28). Long hike: 8½ mi., 2100 ft. ascent/descent. Medium hike: 7 mi., 1700 ft. ascent/descent. Short hike: 5½ mi., 1500 ft. ascent/descent. Optional side trip for short/medium hikers to Cunningham Falls adds 2½ miles and 300 ft. ascent/descent.
A hike and a party! That’s the double-barreled attraction for our first hike of the New Year. The hike, in Catoctin Mountain Park, begins at the Visitors’ Center and climbs to the panoramic overlooks of Chimney and Wolf Rocks for magnificent winter views. From there, short hikers return directly to the Visitors’ Center and its cozy fireplace. Others continue to Thurmont Vista, from where medium hikers return, while long hikers hoof it farther past Hog Rock to Cunningham Falls. The bus then takes us to Bethesda for pizza, libations, and fellowship. [Note: the pizza party is optional; bus continues on to our regular drop-off locations.]
Leaders: Roslyn Rubin 703/[masked] and Brian O’Konski 202/[masked]
