Hike: Excursion to Rehoboth Beach, DE

Rehoboth Beach Excursion, Delaware

Special Bus Route:  Bus leaves from 16th and I St., NW at 8:00 a.m. and New Carrollton Metro at 8:20 a.m.

$45 (nonmembers $50).

Enjoy restaurants, shops, the boardwalk – and, of course, the magnificent beach  – on this trip to the popular Atlantic Coast resort town. There’ll be hiking, too!  Our trip to Rehoboth, in the light-traffic middle day of the holiday weekend, will follow a special routing, stopping first to drop interested hikers off at Delaware Seashore State Park just south of Dewey Beach. From there they can hoof it along the beach to Rehoboth.

*** Special Bus Route *** As street parking at the Downtown DC stop is restricted on Saturday, for those driving to meet the bus boarding at the New Carrollton Metro stop is recommended with free parking on the weekend in the Metro lots. (Note: there are also private lots at this station.)

At the New Carrollton Station the bus will stop on the Eastside, or Highway 50 side, at the second bus bay marked with a circled B, for routes B21, B22 and C28.

Leaders: Brian O’Konski 202--362--2982 and Steven Shore 410--992--5482

-------

Please RSVP and pay for this hike on Meetup.  You only need to call the hike leaders if you have questions regarding the hike.

However, if you are a first-time hiker with us, please let the hike leaders know so that they can ensure that you know where to meet the bus.  If you've RSVP'd with us, we don't want to leave you behind.

If after you make this reservation, you need to cancel and would like to request a refund, before 2:00 pm, the day before the hike, BOTH: 1.) Change RSVP to "No" --AND-- 2.) Press "Request Refund" link, and include your FULL NAME, and DATE YOU PAID.

Please note:  there is a $5 per seat processing fee for cancelling a reservation.

For additional details, visit our website and refer to our Frequently Asked Questions at www.capitalhikingclub.org

Reservations: The Capital Hiking Club is a non-profit group, and the public is invited to join on all trips. Early reservations are appreciated! While reservations are accepted Friday, making your reservation prior to Thursday evening helps to ensure your seat on the bus, and prevents the cancellation of the hike due to low sign-ups.

If contacting hike leaders during the week of the hike, please place calls prior to 9:30 p.m. As a courtesy to other hikers and to the hike leaders, please cancel as early as possible, so that your reserved spot may be given to someone else.

Cost, what to wear, what to bring: Transportation costs are listed for each hike. Bring sufficient food and water for a day's outing in a day pack or fanny pack with individual First Aid articles, a whistle, and extra clothing according to the season. Sturdy boots or shoes are a necessity. It is recommended to carry 8 oz. of water per mile to be hiked. Gatorade or other electrolyte replacement drinks are also recommended.

Liability: Hikers are responsible for their own safety and must assume risks and liability for all outings. CHC leaders, officers, and representatives shall not be liable for any injuries, loss or damage to persons or property, direct or consequential, arising out of any trips or Club activities. Hikers are expected to be able to keep a 2 mph pace.

(Optional) Membership Dues $10.00 per year. Click the "Member dues" link (on the left side of this page) to pay the $10 member dues to support the Capital Hiking Club.  Dues help pay for the administrative and web costs of running the club, and you will also benefit from a reduced rate for club hikes.  More information at: http://www.capitalhikingclub.org/

      July 5, 2014

  • archana

I will go to the New Carrollton stop via metro, since I am not sure where boarding is now.

I am close to New Carrollton metro now, so it is fine. I should be there in ten minutes or 15 at the latest.

From reading his comment, I believe he is saying that CAR parking is restricted on Saturday, so if you're driving and parking, go to New Carrolton. If you're arriving via metro, my interpretation is that it's fine to go to 16th and I for pickup.

It is a day trip. The trip is in the middle of the long weekend when there is less traffic on the roads.

This isn't in the printed calendar. the trip will go rain or shine, so the usual deadlines will apply. We will make a stop about 8:30 at the New Carrollton Metro. Hiking will be optional, with options including a round trip to Cape Henlopen, including World War II submarine watchtowers on the way, or a walk from Dewey Beach to Rehobeth.
