What we're about
Cardiff Quaynotes began life in February 2014 and since then has grown from a group of neighbours gathering keen singers from within the locality to a vibrant choir of around 50 members (at full count!) from all over Cardiff and beyond. Membership has grown from word of mouth and meetup membership and is keen to welcome new members.
We have a varied repertoire, from traditional choral to classical to more popular, modern, chart hits (think Glee but less cheesy!)
The organisers are all volunteers who have a passion for singing and want others to have a chance to join them in this. The idea of the choir is firstly to have fun, but at the same time, having a pride in knowing that what we are doing, we are doing well!
We get a lot of questions about whether members need to be able to read music or other queries about the level of other music experience needed. The answer is simple, you just need to be able to hold a tune and have the commitment to turn up and enjoy yourself!
Usually (although not always) our weekly sessions are based around learning pieces for some sort of public performance (we've performed on the Glanfa (free) stage in the Millennium Centre on a number of occasions and put on paid Christmas performances in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. We held our first highly successful Summer Concert in July 2016). These concerts have raised well over £2,000 for charity to date. If you don't fancy the idea of performing then just come along for the practices and see how you go!
We don't audition members, although some of our concerts involve solos, duets, quartets and more. When we have these, our choir leader will probably approach the best people for the job or ask for volunteers. We know that some people are much more comfortable with this than others and no one wants to feel uncomfortable in front of an audience!
We rehearse, usually in the Wales Millennium Centre, on a Thursday evening, around 19:30 to 21:00 and would love to have more members. We have a small subscription payable at the start of a 'term' of £15 to cover purchase of music and other essentials, but as no one is paid, we try to keep this to an absolute minimum (less than £2 per week). Come along and try out your first week without paying or committing (you can take your music home once you've made your mind up and paid your first subscriptions)
Please get in touch if you need more information and let us know if you'd like to join.
Keep an eye on the meetup page for details of rooms and times (as sometimes these can change with short notice) and hopefully we will see you at a practice soon
