Join us as we travel to Western PA in search of one of Wrights most famous designs. Fallingwater is often called his most recognizable residence, it is certainly one of his most beautiful.
Fallingwater was a weekend house for the Edgar J. Kaufmann family of Pittsburgh, owners of Kaufmann's Department Store. The house was owned and used by the Kaufmann family until 1963, when it was entrusted by Edgar Kaufmann, jr., to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.
Designed in 1935 by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright [masked]), the main house was constructed[masked], followed by the guest house construction in 1939.
Kentuck Knob is another Wright designed home that is more modest but just as interesting.
Designed on a hexagonal module, the house is a small one story (Usonian) house. Usonian meaning affordable for the average American, a signature design concept of Wright.
Here are the plans for the upcoming Carlisle Mini - Fall Foliage/Frank Lloyd Wright House Tour Trip - October 14-15, 2017 Fall foliage will likely be peak or near-peak color this weekend, so hotel and tour reservations will become hard to come by.
We have already seen some hotels and some house tour times already sold out. If you plan to go on this trip, we suggest that you make hotel and house tour reservations NOW. If you wait, you may not find desired hotels or house tour times available.
