Details

The ride pace will average 10 MPH (Medium Level) and tends to be too slow for road bikes. Hybrid and mountain bikes work out best. The ride is approximately 20 miles total- 4 hours long with some gently rolling hills. This ride is not intended for a novice rider due to the distance and upgrades.

Meet at the Niantic Bay Bicycle Shop on 8 Methodist Street.

Methodist Street has plenty of parking and is located off of 311 Main Street just after the RR tracks.

Join us for a ride through the scenic streets and roads through Niantic/East Lyme. Most of the route is very quiet and has very little traffic. We'll be riding along the shoreline most of the ride.

Casual Ride Level Chart:

A note about our ride levels. We try to accommodate all levels of cyclists with different types of rides. We just ask that you come to the ride that suits your current riding ability the best.

Introductory Level : If you haven't ridden a bike in a number of years or are uncertain of your abilities on a bicycle including not knowing how to shift your gears.

Beginner Level : If you can easily ride your bike for 10 miles with some minor hills at a comfortable pace. This is equivalent to riding about 1.5 hours.

Medium Level : If you can do 20 miles pretty easily at a leisurely pace (10+ mph) This is equivalent to riding 3 hours at a steady pace with several breaks.

Directions: To avoid Rt. 9 traffic, it's best to take Rt. 2 East off I-84 in East Hartford heading toward Norwich/New London. Take exit 19 off Rt. 2 which is Rt. 11----at the end of Rt. 11, take a left and drive down to the rotary and take a right onto Rt. 85. Follow Rt. 85 for approximately 3 miles and take a slight right onto Rt. 161.... Follow Rt. 161 to the end and take a right onto Rt. 156 and then your first right onto Methodist St.
