What we're about
A small group of women, referred to as the "Ladies Who Uke" were taking lessons with Killian Mansfield in 2009. Killian passed away in August, 2009, following a 5-year cancer battle. After that, George Koury, a very talented ukulele player (and Tiny Tim's cousin) -- also a dear friend of Killian's -- graciously offered to guide the group. Killian's parents, Babs and Phil Mansfield lead the group on occasion now, but it is mostly a labor of love, a nurturing village fun focused, good natured people who share what they know. Currently, we meet the first Saturday of every month at the Phoenicia Library, which houses the Killian Mansfield Ukulele Collection. There are also weekly Wednesday meetings of slightly more advanced students at the Olive Library. Donations can be made to the libraries to support the Catskill Ukulele Group meetings and to grow and maintain ukulele collections, and to further the elementary school and adult programming that the collection serves.
