FRI, JUN 21 -- OLD RAG MOUNTAIN This 9.3 mile moderate-to-strenuous circuit, with a 2400 foot elevation gain, is one of the most popular hikes in SNP. There are several beautiful views of the valley and a great 270 degree view from the summit. Then there is the rock "scramble" - a challenging climb with one spot that may require (for some) the leader's guidance. The hike is planned to last between 5.5 hours and a little over 6 hours; hikers should be in good enough shape to handle the distance at a moderate pace within the stated timeframe. We'll have a lunch-photo break at the top and two more at scenic spots along the way. As you carpool from the Meetup site to the trailhead your costs will include a $10 carpool fee plus park-entrance fee for cars that do not have a park pass (passengers and driver share cost) (+$2 for nonmembers). No Need to make reservations but be mindful that a critical number of drivers are needed to transport hikers to the trailhead. Meet at 10:00 a.m. at Vienna Metro, north side. Leader: Frank M.
