What we're about

About the Center for Mindful Use

We are a nonprofit unincorporated association (ie, a group :) ) committed to cannabis education and community wellness. (We especially love when all of that blends together.)

Cannabis is now legal and available in a growing number of areas. It is not for everyone. But if you choose to use it — or are considering doing so — the Center for Mindful Use (http://www.whatcomtalk.com/2017/09/07/bellinghams-center-for-mindful-use/) (CMU) provides a safe, free and fun place to talk with and learn with others about how to do so mindfully.

For the last century, forced into the shadows, a great deal has been said and written about "marijuana." As a plant used by humans for millennia, there is much more to share. Cannabis is ready for new spokespeople and the nonprofit CMU is a place for those speakers to say what they need to say.

CMU is also a gathering place for those living near downtown Bellingham, Washington, located in the very far upper-left hand corner of the U.S. "Lower 48." The Forum de Freedom, the space in which we meet, is an important, even sacred, space to the many who regularly gather to meditate and stretch and pose and dance and intentionally rest and drum and hula hoop and explore and commune — and, of course, breathe.

We are truly located just over the Rainbow Bridge (https://www.whatcomtalk.com/2018/04/19/rainbow-bridge/). :)

We are located at 100 Maple Street, Suite B, Bellingham, Washington. We are directly behind the Satori Cannabis Boutique. The Center's entrance is kitty-corner to 1111 Cornwall Ave., which is about a block northwest from the Bellingham Farmer's Market.

All events are free unless otherwise indicated. Love donations for our teachers and the Center's mission are gratefully accepted.

Some CMU programs may be recorded for live Internet streaming and/or archived for later playback. During such events, a limited number of seats will be reserved for our live studio audience members who do not wish to appear on camera.

What about cannabis use as part of CMU events?: Smoking and any other use of cannabis (or any other other controlled substance) in the Forum is currently not permitted. That said, mindful cannabis users, are welcome at all events. We simply ask that guests show up with curious, open hearts and presence. For some, cannabis may provide assistance. For others, it may not. Know and be responsible for thyself.

ONLINE: Astrology Circle

Online event

Come join us for an evening of astrological exploration. No matter if you are a beginner, have an advanced understanding of the stars, or are anywhere in between this group is for you to deepen your understanding of the mystic art of astrology. There will be a main topic for the evening to discuss, and time after to explore any questions or stories you may have. I encourage you to bring a notebook and a copy of your birth chart if you have it. If you are interested and there is time we may even take a look at your chart as an example to explore. Each month we will be exploring a different sign of the zodiac. We will have chart examples for us to explore how the archetype of this sign manifests in different ways, followed by time for stories and questions. Host Bio: Over the last 15 years Steven Anderson has been studying, practicing, and teaching the art of metalsmithing in various settings. During that same time he was also exploring the divine arts and sciences, and anything esoteric and out of the realm of the ordinary. In the last few years he has been creating a union of these two interests in his business Metal Mysterium (metalmysterium.com), where he teaches and offers astrology readings and uses the mystic sciences to create personalized pieces of jewelry (talismans) to help clients embrace their own innate power. Event is free with inspired donations gratefully accepted. Please check mindfuluse.org for schedule changes. RSVP on this page if you'd like to receive an automatic update.

Tiny Trump Love Meditation

Needs a location

This is it. We gathered in person during the summer of 2018 to try something new. It feels like the right time to gather again — albeit in a different way. Join us once again to pause your day and send love to Donald Trump for five minutes. Genuine, heartfelt, unconditional love. Love as the ultimate and most powerful force of change in the Universe. Love is The Answer. Love is the Beginning and the End. Everything is Love. All You Need is Love.... That's what every major religion and spiritual philosophy — and countless poets and song writers — will tell you. What if? What if they're right? It's worth a try. (If nothing else, it will be nice to just take some deep breaths and enjoy a short break from the craziness.) If you can't send Love to the current 74-year-old version of Trump that is now the President, I understand. But I encourage you to find a version you can. Maybe that's Tiny Trump. Baby or Toddler Trump. At one point, he was an innocent child — just like so many of those his policies have targeted. That version of Trump is lovable. That version — if you've read the recent book about his childhood written by his niece — seems like it could really use some Love. Conjure up that vision of Trump and join us as we try something new: Love. This could not be more simple. No speeches, marches, placards or debates. Those have their places elsewhere. We aren't gathering in person or even on Zoom. No RSVP necessary. Instead, we will simply meditate in silence for 5 minutes — wherever you are and in your own way — sending out Love. And we'll keep doing it the last Friday of each month until the November election. (Aug. 28, Sept. 25, Oct. 30.) And if you've got an extra five minutes, I encourage you to imagine the world you do want to live in (yes, mine is Trump-less) rather than fearing or getting angry about the world you don't want to live in. Thoughts/prayers/energy/meditations/intentions/vibes — whatever you call what you do — all hearts welcome — as long as they are authentic. Leave your politics at the gate. We don't have time to mess around any more. (And vote, of course.)
