*We are now asking for an optional $5 per person donation at our monthly meetings to help pay for speaker meals and group expenses. This is not required, but any donation is appreciated :)*
This month we'll hear from Dr. Jody Fry, professor at Texas A&M University-Central Texas and Director of their MS One Planet Leadership (OPL) Program. It is estimated that the planet’s population will increase from 6-9 billion in the next thirty years and that we are currently depleting the world’s resources 1.5-2 times faster than they can be replenished by nature. It should be clear that current business models based on unbridled growth and consumerism in the pursuit of maximizing profits to the detriment of employees, society, and the environment are failing us and the planet. This calls for a new leadership paradigm for building the kind of sustainable world that we want to live in and that we want our children and grandchildren to inherit. MS OPL Program’s emphasis is on awareness and action; that today’s leaders should actively seek to change the world for the better. The result is a “One Planet”-focused leadership program that equips students to become self-aware, sustainability-conscious leaders prepared to address the critical economic, social, and environmental issues facing today's organizations – i.e., the Triple Bottom Line or People, Planet, and Profit.
We will meet in the private room in the back right of the restaurant. Food and drink are available for purchase. Don't forget to bring your hard-to-recycle items (white styrofoam, #3-7 plastic, toothpaste & other oral care items, hygiene product containers, contact lenses/cases/foils) to the meeting. They'll be recycled through Fort Hood Recycle and TerraCycle!
