Learn how to help those who are dealing with end of life concerns!
Central Coast Hospice Volunteer Training is open to anyone interested in learning more about how to help patients and their families at the end of life. During the training you will hear from our staff which include: nurses; social workers; bereavement counselor; spiritual counselor; hospice musician; and volunteers. The topics will include: hospice philosophy; communication skills; ways to deal with grief and loss; supporting patients with dementia issues, family dynamics; end of life process; volunteer role etc.
If during the course you decide you would like to become a hospice volunteer, then we ask that volunteers provide 3-4 hours a week to help provide practical, emotional or respite support to patients and their families. Fingerprinting, TB test and further screening will given to all candidates who want to become a volunteer.
The next training will be held at the Central Coast Hospice San Luis Obispo office, over four consecutive Fridays: January 27, February 3, 10, 17 from 9:00am-3:30pm. Lunch and snacks will be served. There is no charge for this training.
This 26 hour training is broken into 4 sessions and we ask that potential volunteers attend all 4 classes. If you have to miss one class we can make arrangements to meet with you one-on-one to fill you in on the what you missed. If you need to skip more than one class then we ask that you wait to take the next class.
Pre-registration is necessary. If you have questions, please contact the Central Coast Hospice office at[masked]-6020.
