  • 6:30 pm – Drinks, food and networking
  • 6:45 pm – Group Introductions
  • 7:00 pm – Featured presentation 1: Mobile UI
  • 7:20 pm – Featured presentation 2: Incorporating Video & Photo

First Featured Presentation

What all Android developers should know about UI

We often talk about how for years iOS apps simply looked better than Android and we shouldn't blame Android developers. As an developer community though, it's perhaps not your 100% your fault, but it's definitely your responsibility. Hear from Echo's CEO Carlos Carbonell and Creative Director Rainer Flor about the important topic of mobile UI.

  • Why design & development should work together
  • Best Practices
  • Following the 'iOS Standard' (is there one?)
  • Cautionary Tales
  • UI and UX: are not the same thing!
  • Great examples of good design

Second Featured Presentation

Incorporating Video and Photo into Android Apps (Part 1 of a 3-part series continuing in the following 2 meetups)

Android devices allow people to have access to a high-quality photo and video camera at all times. The Android API enables developers to capitalize on the ready availability of a camera to incorporate photo and video into your apps.

In part 1 of this 3-part series, we'll talk about how we can take advantage of Android's Intent-based programming model to add photo & video capture to your apps in as few as 5 lines of code.

Jim Wilson from PluralSight will be presenting.

This was a really fun and informative night! Both presentations were helpful(learned about some great resources) and ways to add photos in Android apps. I'm really looking forward to the next one.

Thanks Carlos and Rainer for the UX guidance, and thanks Jim Wilson for the code lab through getting a camera image into an app -- and for the PluralSight month!

I'm sorry to say I'll have to miss this one and as a UI/UX guy I do mean sad. Unfortunately, my day has been way too hectic but I will make every effort to make the next one and hopefully will be able to get Joel Martinez to come as well ;)

Looks like I have to miss too, I scheduled Wed. night and booked up the others. Tuesday would work a lot better for me normally. I will try to reschedule but I doubt I will be able to. I look forward to next month, you guys enjoy!

A reminder, the event will on Tuesday, May 7th. Sorry we had to change the date after the initial email went out. Myself and my cofounder at Echo have been in NY for the past week attending NY Tech Day and Techcrunch's Disrupt NY, plus we had a few amazing meetings at Google NY HQ about our new partnership with them so we hope to bring some little pieces of brilliance we want to share with you all. Hope to see you all there!

Sorry. I have another event scheduled for that night.

Hey guys, is this Tuesday or Wednesday? The email said Wednesday, but the group event says Tuesday.

I'd expect it to be Wednesday, I know that's when the last one was.

    • Carlos C.

Sorry for the confusion, the date is indeed changed to Tuesday. Thank you and looking forward to seeing you all there.
