This group is limited to 4 tables of 4 players each playing at the same time. It is for all levels of American Mah Jongg players who live in and around Winter Park/Orlando, Florida, as long as you know how to play, the rules and don't hold up our play. We don't give lessons but will give you resources to learn.
We meet weekly Wednesdays and Fridays.
Why you should play Mah Jongg?
Playing Mah Jongg is fun and a great social activity. Learning these complicated tiles and the rules of a new game makes your brain work, and helps create new connections in your brain, which can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
• Your mah jongg set, and $4 to play. I will bring the one set I own, but we will need more sets. If you want to buy your own, they cost about $100 for the tiles, racks and carrying case. There are many online sites you can purchase the sets from. See "Pages" tab above.
• A rule book, from the National Mah Jongg League or various books/websites online. See "Pages" tab above, or go to the "More" tab above, then scroll down to "Files" to read the pdf. file I uploaded, "The Game of Mah Jongg" which explains American Mah Jongg and how to play.
• As a beginner, I learned by playing and reading Elaine Sandler's book, Beginner's Guide to American Mah Jongg: How to Play the Game & Win. It's available on Amazon, https://www.Amazon.com.
• Enthusiasm and patience if you are a beginner or used to playing with another group. It takes a while to learn how to play Mah Jongg and to click with a new group, but you'll be rewarded by an interesting, challenging game and a nice social activity.
Membership to this group:
Please post a clear, recent picture of yourself and your real first name so I can approve your membership.
Don't forget to RSVP "Yes" before you come to a play day. If you RSVP "Yes" and can't make a game, change your RSVP to "No".
If you love mah jongg like I do, you may want to join the "Mah Jongg That's It" group on Facebook.
I would like to have active members in the group, so if you join and haven't attended in a few months, you'll be removed.
We're looking forward to playing mah jongg with you!
