Truth: What is Truth?

  • This location is shown only to members

  • One afternoon while spending time at Natura Coffee & Tea, just outside of UCF on Collegiate Way, I listened to a student proclaim that truth was found at the asymptote; in an absolute way for various contexts, this is as true a fact as anything else which fit certain criteria.

    Another time, at h2ochurch, when they met in a movie theater, I witnessed the following from Franco Zeffirelli's Jesus of Nazareth,

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtSz-DxGFmI

    which, if nothing else, testifies to the fact that life is unfair.

    We've just come through an election which, to this author, felt like a psyops campaign conducted domestically. In the midst of all this, let us with our total beings seek after and bring back the truth. #LetsBringBackTruth

    TIL: I can be true, but I cannot be Truth. The best I can be in this life is a reflection of truth. And that is good enough.

    Am currently reading The "Hatred of Life": ... http://www.globalresearch.ca/the-hatred-of-life-the-world-system-which-is-threatening-all-of-us/5541269 which has several good points and perhaps a fatal flaw. I find Anthea Andreadis' commentary on the work helpful https://www.facebook.com/sara.salyers/posts/1072159382833032

      Anthea's openning commentary: " I think that any mention of patriarchy warrants a clear definition. As you know we live in Orwelian times! For me patriarchy is hierarchy. It is force and violence, the culmination and monopoly of which is the State. The root archy is this. Anything ending in archy or cracy ultimately is a system of violence including democracy. Anarchy removes this. Without. Sans violence and intimidation. Even the word matriarchy would be negative, cos it operates upon a "masculine" premise of controlling others, it implies violence rather than celebrate the feminine gentle loving approach. I believe that men have suffered just as much under "patriarchy" if not more, since they have been abused, hardened, raised to conceal their humanity and feelings which ultimately makes them "useful" for power-hungry opportunists and cannon-fodder for the state.

    • Rami K.

      Anthea continued: " If patriarchy means family then im all for that but politically that is not what it is. Men as protectors is natural, since they are born physically stronger. But men as destroyers is thoroughly unnatural. Men and women love the earth, it is our home. As long as men are raised with warped role models and abused psychologically and physically nothing will change. They will just continue the cycle, competing and in turn abusing those they love the most, including their wives and children. Abuse is not in their nature; it's not in anyone's nature. It is something learned. The earth gives and gives but we have reached a point where she is endangered and the future of her inhabitants is at risk. Fear is the opposite of love, the opposite of respect. No power that derived from fear has ever been anything other than counterfeit."

    I don't think we can make progress in our personal or social philosophies unless we subscribe to one of these two expressions as tautological.
    C = if/then
    K = and
    A = Exclusive or
    N = Negation
    All lower case letters are propositional variables.
    We will be even better off if we require each propositional variable to stand for a well-formed formula in the predicate calculus.
    I realize that this is a heavy lift but I wanted to make the proposal, nevertheless. Toward progressive thought partnerships!

    Been learning a new language. Mandarin Chinese. Feeling like an old dog trying to learn an alien way of thinking, breathing, vocalizing, living, seeing, and just being. It's another paradigm for processing thoughts and communicating. A mathematical-musical way of interpreting reality. A musical way of creating words with a smaller set of sounds or phonemes? (fewer consonants and vowells)

      Jairo Moreno
      Phonemes chart for English (see previous link). Not sure if they have analyzed Mandarin Chinese that way, but they do distinguish initials (mostly consonants) from finals (the vowels, diphthongs, plus some with "ng" endings) so multiplying the number of initials with the number of finals would give you all the possible Chinese sounds not depending on tone. That's roughly 20 x 40, only 800, actually less used, perhaps only 500. But then you multiply by number tones, five, then you get 2500 distinct sounds, actually less used, to produce 2500 syllables that represent distinct words. But they have many synonyms, so you have to figure out from context which word you mean. I hope that gives you a glimpse of how different Chinese is from English or any other European language we have been familiarized with.

    Went to Plato's Cave and saw that the Cave Man escaped. How did I figure that out? I revisited the never ending debate over the existence of God in the Discussions >> Message Board and looked down for the one with the most numbers of pages generated around 23 so far. It's the one titled "New file: The Debate Over God's Existence" Steve started the thread back in 2009. So long ago that there were some "A former member" posts, with one signed as Jon. And Marilyn responded to one former member, ""I don't understand this, Rammy. Are you saying that God exists whether or not an individual believes God exists? Could it be that God doesn't exist whether or not an individual believes God exists?""

      It's nice to see Marilyn has re-entered the cave tho; she was gone for a while. Jon Holman(sp?), I think, made the most interesting contributions to that old thread. There was also someone named Ivan who participated for a while who stepped out too. I left PC over a year ago during "On the errors of collectivism" https://www.meetup.com... and haven't felt the need to rejoin.

      But then we have to do some scholarly detective work to determine what you posted. And if you rejoin, it should hopefully bring back the label to your contributions for when after you pass away, then we can write books about the great philosopher Rami, and debate over what you really meant.

    My research into the seven countries we've bombed this year () as part of our futile war against an idea led me to think of 26 April 1937 bombing of Guernica, Spain. Here's an article which recounts what occurred there: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6583639.stm

      And while reading the above article I was reminded of the following quote: 'The first casualty, when war comes, is truth' —Hiram Johnson [masked]) - a Progressive Republican senator in California.

      Here's the list of nations wherein we've bombed people without first even declaring war: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Somalia. This is what the AUMF gets us — the ability to have and use our own Condor Legion.

    "How can I enter into a dialogue if I always project ignorance onto others and never perceive my own...if I consider myself a member of the in-group of 'pure' [persons], the owners of truth and knowledge, for whom all non-members are 'those people' or 'the great unwashed'? ...Founding itself upon love, humility and faith, dialogue is a horizontal relationship of which mutual trust between participants is the logical consequence."
