I wasn’t able to find a cheap way to visit the London Wetland Centre so have decided to try Section 1 of the Capital Ring, although backwards to make it a little more challenging. We’ll all be trying it out for the first time!
The walk is about 7 miles long and includes steps or steep slopes. We meet up at Falconwood NR Station for 1205 and finish at Woolwich Arsenal on the DLR. I would recommend getting the 1132 train from Charing Cross (avoid Victoria) to Falconwood, although I’ll start the walk at about 1215 if anyone texts me to say they’re on the next train. The journey time is about 30 minutes. Our first challenge will be to find the Oxleas Wood Café! Apart from visiting Oxleas Wood and Meadows we also go past the Thames Barrier, amongst other delights. I could say more but you can see it on the leaflet here http://www.walklondon.org.uk/uploads/File/leaflets/cr1directions_20102010104554.pdf
As I haven’t tested the route I won’t collect donations for CLHG this time. I’ve set a late end time to allow for enjoying the riverside, but people will be able to leave earlier if they wish, of course.
