Ceremonies: Why we not only need them, but should indeed celebrate them

The CLHG are delighted that Zena Birch has offered to speak to the group about Ceremonies: Why we not only need them, but should indeed celebrate them!

Zena's talk will be focusing on humanist wedding ceremonies and discussing the rituals and traditions within them and asking what we, in a modern, secular society still need them for and whether it is important to shape antiquated traditions to give them meaning in the current day.

Zena became accredited through the British Humanist Association as a wedding celebrant in May 2011, since then she has had the pleasure of marrying over 80 couples in a multitude of venues ranging from the traditional to the bizarrely unique.
"Each ceremony is distinctly different from the one that came before. Discovering the necessity for such a communing of people and witnessing the exchange of sentiment that ensues is a source of continual revelation. Being an integral part in peoples' wedding day has shown me that the institution of marriage is alive and kicking and being reclaimed rather powerfully!" - Zena Birch

Door at 6.30 pm for talk at 7.00 p.m.

Please arrive early to have a glass of wine from our CLHG Charity Wine Bar find your seat and chat with other members.

Donations to the wine bar will go to Zena's chosen charity.

All our talks are open to the general public and free to attend but we ask those who can to make a donation of what they can afford to cover the costs of room and equipment hire and help keep our talks free to all.

I am very sorry that I was unable to attend. I crashed out on Tuesday and was in bed for three days, with a total two day fast I have only just surfaced. I was keen to attend this meeting as it's been many moons since I attended one.
But as they say"man proposes, god disposes" but I blaspheme!!!
I do apologise for my non attendance.just hope there are no hiccups next time.
