A walk exploring Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury:
On this walk we will explore areas where characters such as Virginia Woolf, George Bernard Shaw and Benjamin Disraeli lived. We’ll pass the house where L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology, based his first headquarters; the area where radicals and anarchists such Lenin, congregated; and the underground headquarters of General Eisenhower.
We will meet at Caffe Nero (126 Tottenham Ct Road) from 10.45 onwards, and will set off at 11.15. We have allowed plenty of time for this relatively short walk because there are many points of interest along the route and we will be stopping frequently to take them in. After about two hours we will stop for lunch at a Chinese restaurant, “Canton Element”, a few minutes’ walk from Holborn underground.
The route is flat and well-paved, so is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
We hope you can join us. We will assume you are able to lunch after the walk, but if you are unable to do so please let us know so that we can give details to the restaurant.
We will invite our usual voluntary donation of £3 to help cover the costs of our speaker meetings, annual Meetup fees, and the CLHG membership of various international humanist bodies.
