PLEASE NOTE OUR LATER START TIME OF 7.00PM FOR OUR LECTURES

Several people have told us they struggle to get to our lectures by 6.30pm and they dislike arriving late and the disruption this can cause, we have therefore decided to start the lectures a little later at 7.00 p.m. If you can arrive earlier though please do, so you can chat to other members, listen to announcements and maybe take advantage of our New Charity Wine Bar, or the reduced priced books available from SPEC.

John Collier from Population Matters will be discussing the taboo subject of human population growth.

In the last 85 years the human population has grown from 2 to 7 billion, but few are willing to discuss the impact of this number of people on a finite planet.

Population Matters is the leading population charity in the UK and campaign to change the way people think about population. It supports a voluntary reduction in population to a level that enables an acceptable quality of life for all, that protects wildlife and is ecologically sustainable.

Patrons of Population Matters include;

Sir David Attenborough

Dr James Lovelock

and Jonathon Porritt.

"All environmental problems become harder - and ultimately impossible - with ever more people."

Sir David Attenborough

John Collier is speaker for Population Matters, he is also a geographer, a chartered accountant and a successful businessman. He wants to see concerns about the size of the world’s population given at least as much prominence in public debate as they were a generation ago.

Our talk will start at 7.00 p.m. finishing around 8.15 p.m. after a short question and answer session. We will then as usual adjourn to the local pub The Enterprise for further debate.

A suggested donation of £2 would be welcome from those attending the meeting to help cove the cost of the room and equipment hire.
