Annual General Meeting + Our Future (Discussion)

All are welcome!

We're doing great, but always could do better. We need your help. Whether supporter, non-voting member or voting member come along and take part in our review of the year with an eye on the future.

Let The People Decide

Please note that we have 'Voting' and 'Non-Voting' members. Only members who are paid up members of the BHA can vote.

Once the offical business of the AGM is over we will socialise with cheese and wine provided by the committee.

We need you!m
In the last year the group has continued to grow. We now have quite a public presence. Take a look through our past events (here) and if you reckon that there is something else we could do please come along and share your thoughts with us.
This group is quite easy to run Meetup does a lot of the work for us. If we share out the remaining tasks between a number of people the effort required and the ingenuity inspired will be small and great respectively. Here's the provisional Agenda (no doubt it will be slightly modified)

1. Welcome
2. Apologies for absence
3. Minutes
4. Matters arising
5. Financial report
6. News about our membership
7. Report about our programme and events
9. Affiliations and partnership
10. Proposed changes to our Constitution
11. Resolutions received (if any)
12. Election of Committee Members
*Chair
*Secretary
*Treasurer
*Up to 10 other members
13. Chair’s address
14. Any other business

IMPORTANT NOTE - Our AGMs are never too long. So although some AGM aficionados may go home still 'hungry', the meeting will not be boring.
Remember if you have your say you may have your way.

After the AGM agenda has been covered we will have an open floor general discussion where we will have a further opportunity to talk about how we can grow our group to be even more dynamic and exciting.

Very enjoyable but no 'our future' discussion

Mary - when I first read this, the grammar Nazi in me thought "she's missed out an 'h'". Then the penny dropped. I scare myself sometimes.

What a lovely social group we are, and what fun times we have together! And who says (or implies) that we can't have such a social community without religion?!

As AGMs go, not bad! Well done to Alan for his chairmanship - good luck to Helen!

There's always room for improvement. What would make the perfect AGM? BTW others might like o know that Rob, in addition to being a CLHG committee member is also organiser of the very successful London Jazz Meetup
http://www.meetup.com... He has always been in the lead in terms of members, but we are catching up.

      January 19, 2013

I joined Rob's group recently, and so has Jan - and I hope to start going to events. Maybe, if a few more CLHGers join, we can go along as a contingent, even as a CLHG 'event' - but Rob might think we're muscling in too much, ha ha!

Josh - humorous comment only. I've been to some stinkers of AGMs in other organisations that were mind-numbingly boring!!

Ever so sorry David - I forgot to leave my contribution at end of AGM - will give double next mtg. Look forward to the next walk.

Very friendly atmosphere. Fairly informal processes, which is sensible in a 100% voluntary organisation. Lively interesting conversation. Very much enjoyed it.

Possibly a little odd to make the AGM my first CLHG meeting but I will be there. No chance of making 6:30 but hope its OK if I join late. I am a paid up member of the BHA.

      Hi Jason,

As one of the longest standing members, even I shall be arriving late. It will be great to meet new members

Please accept my apologies. One of my relations has passed away and I am having to attend a funeral, otherwise I would definitely have been there. Chris.

Thanks for letting us know and please accept sincere condolences on behalf of the committee.

We have a further apology from:
Stephen Dunkling who has prior important engagements and wrote:

As an outsider I think that the group is good: there have been some good speaker meetings - keep it up!"

    We have received apologies from:
David Milton - who agrees with the amendment to the Constitution but suggests some further improvement to the wording - slightly more formal but probably clearer - http://files.meetup.com/847898/CLH%20Constitution%20proposed%20changes2013%20V1.3.pdf
    and from
    Michael Rubenstein - who wrote
"Would have liked to attend but I'm chairing and speaking at the big TUC/Equal Opportunities Review annual discrimination law conference the next day."
We also, of course have apologies from those who have RSVP'd "No" and I thank them for letting us know.
